Love Poem, Our Love

You hold my hand, I caress your lips,

You look into my eyes and my heart beat skips.

I stroke your back skin so soft and smooth,

I admire your face, every line, every groove.

We move in a little closer, our bodies entwine,

you touch my neck, it sends shivers down my spine.

You whisper that you love me and I know it’s true

because I feel it in my heart and I love you too.

Greatest Love Songs

Some call it the best feeling in the world. Some call it the only thing that makes life worth living; indeed, there is the phrase, “Love makes the world go round”. Love is surely an inextricable part of the tradition of any culture; so it’s hardly surprising that there are so many “love songs” in existence today.

Today’s love songs are linked to many well-known and popular artists – like Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Katie Melua, Shania Twain, Vanessa Carlton, Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood, Luther Vandross, Monica, Beyoncé and the Black Eyed Peas to name a few. You can enjoy listening to them as part of everyday life – to fill the void when you are feeling bored, like when you are walking from one place to another. You can put on one of these songs after you have had a bad day and confide in a fantastic voice and powerful lyrics to help bring you back to your senses. And of course, let’s not forget that there is no shortage of people who use them for seduction purposes, be this in a private setting (i.e. behind the closed doors of one’s home) or a public one (such as having dinner together in a nice restaurant, akin to the elusive beauty sounds coming from a hired guitarist / singer.

You can be pretty sure that, no matter how young a person may be, they are able to write a long and colourful story about the link between them and their personal feelings (even if they would insist that they are “shy”). Sometimes people do come across as incredibly silly or pretentious when they try to profess these deep feelings that they have toward someone else; but love songs might as well be thought of as the best attempts at a universally understood language of love. There is no unique kind of “love song”. Some are grounded in dreams and fantasy, like Born to Make You Happy by Britney Spears:

“I don’t know how to live without your love

I was born to make you happy”

Some deliberately try to tie the sentimental to the down-to-earth, like Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles:

“If I could fall into the sky

Do you think time would pass me by

‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles if could just see you… tonight”

I find that Katie Melua’s If the Lights Go Out emphasises the idea of meekness without too much emotion:

“And if the lights go out on all of us

In just a year or two,

And if the sky falls down like pouring rain,

Then I’ll be here with you; I’ll go down with you”
